Description
Cardinal Flower is a striking perennial with tall spikes of brilliant red tubular flowers that bloom in late summer to early fall. The flowers attract hummingbirds and butterflies, making it a favorite in pollinator gardens. It thrives in moist soils and full sun to part shade, often found along streams, wetlands, or in woodland clearings. This plant is ideal for rain gardens or other water-prone areas. While it prefers consistently moist environments, it can tolerate occasional drought once established. The dark green foliage contrasts nicely with the vibrant flowers, and the plant reaches 3–4 feet in height. Cardinal Flower is a short-lived perennial, but it often self-seeds, providing new plants for future seasons.
